Detailed Narrative Description of Project:
The overall objective of this study is to evaluate the performance of the low-income housing provision with special reference to the achievement of the project objectives and extent of attainment of the standards of physical development as well as services and facilities. The specific objectives are :a) The find out different problems relating to the scarcity of the low-income housing in Dhaka city. b) To review the land development programmes and policies that have been adopted or implemented so far in the country. c) To study the existing housing siuation of Dhaka and to determine the actual nature and magnitude of the housing problmes of the low income group. To study the demand of housing and to identifY the gap. d) To defme appropriate and offordable standards of housing for the low-income groups in toms of sizes type, prices, facilities, tenure and location. e) To formulate appropriate suggestions, recommendations and land development policy guidelines for housing the low-income groups of Dhaka city at suitable. locations in a good environmental condition.f) To investigate the role of sate agencies (such as -RAJUK, Public Works Department (PWD), Housing Settlement Directorate (HSD) with regard to housing provision and their attempts to solve the housing problem in Dhaka. g) To study past and present straegies for environment and intTastructure development of Dhaka city. h) To study the planning proposals and proposed standards for utilities and services as recommended in the project (DUllP) tor low-income housing provisions.  i) To study the existing situation relating to planning proposals and proposed standards for utilities and services.j) To study the living environment of the beneficiaries of this project; and k)To study the maintenance, management and cost recovery system of the housing settlement areas.The Study aimed ot search the problems of housing for the poor and to find out appropriate solutions. To reach the target of the study, the total work was dependent on primary and secondary data, information and opinions of the concerned people.
